Our Story

Let’s grow old together,
not just in the soft folding of skin
or the silver threads in our hair,
but in the way we lean in closer
when the world grows loud,
in the way your hand finds mine
without having to search.

"Our love story began in the most unexpected of places — at a bank training session. Unbeknownst to us, we had actually worked at the same bank for three whole years without ever crossing paths. It wasn’t until an organized weekend training brought us together that fate decided it was time.

I wasn’t even meant to be there on the first day of training. My invitation only came through for the Sunday session. Determined to make the most of it, I arrived early, hoping to catch up with the group. As I sat in the class, a quiet presence walked in — a beautiful woman who caught my attention the moment she took her seat. From then on, I couldn’t keep my eyes away. Even during our break, I found myself checking to see if she was wearing a ring — she wasn’t — and I couldn’t help but notice that she carried the grace and pride of Yoruba heritage, something that deeply resonated with me.

Our first “date” was a night to remember — not your typical dinner for two. She came with her cousins, who were on a mission to “check me out” and decide if I was worthy of their in-law badge. The night was full of laughter, light-hearted teasing, and easy conversations. I passed the test (thankfully), and from that moment, something special began to blossom.

We had our first travel adventure during our annual leave — a much-needed escape where we truly bonded. From long chats to a boat cruise with a friend, we built memories we’d cherish forever. What made me realize she was the one? It’s the peace she gives me — a quiet calm that surrounds us when we’re together. There’s no pressure, no pretense. Just us, growing and learning together. Ironically, whenever I try to make a move without involving her, it somehow doesn’t go as planned — as if the universe is gently reminding me that we’re better as a team. Our proposal day — June 1st, 2025 — almost didn’t happen the way we imagined. A little misunderstanding crept in, with her thinking I had something else in mind (like a simple photo shoot), and her friends weren’t sure what I was up to either. But in the end, it all worked out — perfectly imperfect, just like us.We’ve experienced it all — a slow-burn romance, love at first sight, and yes, even a long-distance stretch that only made us stronger. Today, we stand side by side, grateful for every twist in our path that led us here. And now, we can’t wait to begin this next chapter — together, forever."

"The day we met.

I arrived late for a weekend bank training session — dressed simply, with no idea that I was about to meet the one. I tried to sneak into the back and stay unnoticed until the class ended, but the facilitator had other plans. She called me to the front row — where I had sat the previous day — and insisted I participate. There I was, minding my business, or as the Yorubas say, “jejely,” not knowing I had just caught the attention of a certain Mr. in the corner who, unbeknownst to me, had his eyes, heart, and soul fixed on me.

During break time, he walked up to introduce himself. I didn’t think much of it — just said a polite “hi” and moved on with my friends. Class ended, and I dashed out as fast as I could. But on my way home, just as I reached Katampe junction, I received a call from an unfamiliar number. I picked, and we exchanged pleasantries. I still remember my colleague beside me saying, “Wait, is that Tope? He can be this nice?” We laughed it off — but that was the beginning of something special.

One phone call became two, then turned into endless chats, late-night video calls, and eventually, “I miss you,” “I love you,” and “I want to be with you.” Funny enough, this guy stole my heart with food — The Yellow Plate deserves a medal for softening me up! But beyond that, he made it clear he genuinely loved me. He wanted to know me — really know me. He once told me, “You’re a book I need to read and understand.” He shared his dreams with me — the kind of family he hoped to build — and slowly, I let go of all my “shakara” and jumped right into love.

The deal was sealed on our very first date — which wasn’t quite traditional. I brought along my close family to vet this young man (who does that on a first date?). Thankfully, they gave their full approval. From then on, baba held the express key to my heart.

We planned our first annual leave together, and he made my birthday celebration truly special. That trip was fun, meaningful, and unforgettable — it brought us even closer.

When did I know he was the one?
One moment I was strong and thriving on my own, and the next, I couldn’t imagine a life without him. He gave me a love I couldn’t resist — kind, patient, supportive, and always encouraging me to pursue my dreams. He wanted the best version of me, and was ready to help hand me my goals on a platter of gold.

The Proposal

Ah, the proposal day… June 1st, 2025. What started out as an ordinary, lazy Sunday turned into one of the most magical moments of my life. We were in the middle of a casual photo shoot when I stepped into a room and saw it filled with balloons. I asked the lady there what was happening, and she casually said, “Oh, another couple is coming for a shoot.” I thought nothing of it and stepped back into the lobby.

Next thing I knew — surprise! He appeared and asked me to marry him.

Of course, I said yes — a big, joyful, capital YES!

It’s been an incredible journey together — the laughter, the misunderstandings, the long-distance, the quiet moments, and all the love in between. Out of billions of people in the world, we found each other. And now, we can’t wait to spend forever as one."
